Frequently Asked Questions
What image formats are supported?
We support PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, BMP, and TIFF image formats. These cover virtually all common image types you will encounter, including screenshots, photos of documents, and scanned pages.
How does the OCR work in the browser?
We use Tesseract WASM, a WebAssembly port of the industry-standard Tesseract OCR engine. The WASM binary (~1.8 MB) and English language model (~4 MB) are loaded in your browser. Your image is processed locally without ever being sent to a server.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Your images never leave your device. All OCR processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly. You can verify by checking your browser network tab during conversion. Zero data is sent externally.
Can I extract text from screenshots?
Yes. Screenshots saved as PNG or JPG work perfectly. Just drop your screenshot and the OCR engine will extract all readable text from it.
Is there a limit on the number of images?
No. You can convert as many images as you need. There is no daily limit, no conversion cap, and no account required. The tool is completely free with no restrictions.
What language does the OCR support?
Currently, the OCR engine is loaded with the English language model. It works best with English text but can also recognize text in languages that use the Latin alphabet.
